Mark Sirkin received his Master’s degree and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Connecticut. Over the years, he has done post-doctoral training in family therapy and group therapy. He also received post-doctoral certification in Organizational Development and Consulting at the W. A. White Institute. With a background in family therapy and organizational consulting, working with family businesses was a natural next step once he had his post-doctoral certificate. He is considered an expert on professional service firms, closely-held businesses and partnerships, and work-life balance.
As a business consultant, he has worked for several large consulting firms throughout his career including RHR International, Hay Group (now part of Korn Ferry), and Hildebrandt (now owned by Thomson Reuters). He was also CEO of a human capital consultancy which was eventually sold to BNA, now part of Bloomberg LLP. Currently, he manages his own consultancy, Sirkin Advisors specializing in executive coaching, team building, and organizational change with a specific focus on partnerships and closely-held businesses (www.SirkinAdvisors.com ).
He has written numerous articles and two books, The Secret Life of Corporations: Understanding the True Nature of Business (2004
2nd Edition, 2020) and Regain Your Balance: At Work, with Family, in Life (2016). His most recent publication is “Partners in time: Working with multi-generational enterprises,” a chapter in F. W. Kaslow (Ed.), Contemporary Issues in Couples and Family Psychology.
He has taught at the graduate level at the University of Rochester, CUNY, NYU, Yeshiva University, and most recently as Associate Dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy College and Associate Dean and Interim Program Director in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University, both in New York. He is a past President of the Society of Consulting Psychology, Division 13 of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of APA. He has also been active in the New York State Psychological Association. Mark is married with three adult children and a growing cadre of grandchildren. He lives with his wife in White Plains, NY where he maintains a small private practice and continues to work with businesses of all sizes.
Mark works with partnerships of all shapes and sizes. He has specialized knowledge in working with co-preneurial couples (people who married and in business together) as well as family businesses and law firms and other professional practices.
