The Partnership Charter is one of the only books written that addresses both sides of being partners – the business and personal.
While entrepreneurs know their business, they’re often in the dark about the risks they’ll encounter with partners. That’s because no one is trained in how to be partners – it’s not taught in business schools or law schools. Partners plan for their business, but not their partnership, and ironically, it’s poorly planned partnerships that sink businesses, not the other way around.
The DYP tool was employed with hundreds of partners in the US and abroad for over 20 years in a Word-version format. It was patiently refined and tested during those 2 decades. Then after 2 years of meticulous design and programming, the online version was thoroughly beta tested. The tool that was a first in the world of partnerships is now a first in the online world of partnerships. There’s nothing like it for partners who want to understand their partnership from the inside out – both the business and interpersonal sides. Most partners know it’s risky business to avoid either the business or the personal. DYP addresses both comprehensively.
“This is among the very best. It strikes the right balance between being informative and readable. It’s a great blend of theoretical knowledge, practical experience as a professional partnership mediator, and empathy for the audience.”
JORDAN HUGHES – AMAZON.COM REVIEW
Entrepreneurs who read The Partnership Charter lose their naïveté.
As the leader of a team of mediators, David saw very experienced entrepreneurs making avoidable and sometimes tragic mistakes. In the book he wrote, “Partners have a tendency to leave a sliver of ambiguity in their arrangement, which grows until one day it becomes a monster overshadowing the partners’ every conversation.” No one becoming partners should be naïve about the challenges inherent in co-ownership.
Sigmund Warburg, the founder of UBS, once wisely noted, “All events should be crossed in imagination before reality.” One chapter of the book focuses on scenario planning, and the DYP tool includes a unit that has each partner imagine what could happen to their partnership that they’ve not planned for.

The Author
In 1990 Dr. David Gage founded the first multidisciplinary team of mediators dedicated to resolving business partner conflicts collaboratively. Mediating hundreds of partners disputes taught them about every issue the partners had failed to discuss, negotiate and agree on.
With all they learned from those warring family and non-family partners, Dr. Gage knew there had to be a better way. He found his passion and second professional niche: helping partners avoid conflicts through thorough planning.
