The Charter is the partnership’s roadmap into the future

The Charter is a special 70-100 page document that captures all of the previously agreed on decisions and defines how the partners will work together on a day-to-day basis, prevent unhealthy conflict, and clarify their long term co-ownership intentions. It is essential to the ongoing success of the partnership. Every Charter is different, geared to the structure, needs and unique make-up of each partnership.

Developing a Charter

Creating a Charter

DYP’s sophisticated platform, creating the Charter, the final step in the PC process, easy. Each unit has a template with suggested language and prompts to help partners draft a document designed specifically for their partnership. Due to DYP’s unique technology, the content captured during the joint meeting flows seamlessly to the Draft and is ready for final editing.

Editing a Charter

Due to DYP’s unique technology, the content captured during the joint meeting flows seamlessly to the Draft and is ready for final editing. Additions, deletions, changes and corrections can be within the system to generate an initial version of the Charter. The system records all changes for historical reference and audit tracking.

When a unit draft is ready, every partner reviews and comments online. Every partner is able to see when each partner starts and completes their review. To ensure every partner thinks the drafts through for themselves, they cannot see each other’s comments, or whether the other partners have approved or rejected the draft until every partner has finished their review. Google Docs this is not!

Signing the Charter

By the time partners are ready to sign their Charter, they typically feel great confidence they thoroughly understand why they want to be partners, how they’re going to work together, and how they think they may want to exit their partnership one day. PDF document.

Discuss

Going back and forth — sharing and listening — partners reveal and discuss what each person thinks is critical to their success. They build on a foundation of each person’s ideas. It’s a creative, unique step in the process.

Each partner independently reviews and comments on each unit draft. The advisor reconciles the feedback and a new draft is written. A 70-100 page Charter memorializes the partners’ understandings and agreements.
